There are several centres in the capital city working with children and adults with severe intellectual disabilities. In addition to being taught some vocational skills it is important that the adults learn to be more independent to take responsibility and to take the initiative. The centres mostly take clients with different levels of ability so some groups concentrate on providing activities while others aim to teach skills.
The job requires a lot of creativity in different skills like sewing and woodwork. The different workshops need to provide varying levels of work for the different clients including very basic skills such as sandpapering. The ideal candidate will also have creative ideas for marketing.The role also involves equipping local teachers with skills in vocational training and teaching them how to work with a group.
The ideal candidate will have experience in working with adults with severe intellectual difficulties. They will be a creative person with a range of different skills. They also need to have lots of patience and a good sense of humour.
